January is Dental Health Month

Most pet owners don't realize that dental disease in dogs and cats is one of the most common problems veterinarians have to treat.

Once plaque and gingivitis have formed, dental scaling and polishing by a veterinarian or veterinary technician are needed.  Without intervention, bacteria associated with tooth and gum disease can spread to internal body organs and cause infections of the kidneys, heart or lungs.  Regular home care, combined with routine dental check-ups and teeth cleaning, is the best method of preventing dental disease.

January is our dental health month. All dentals will be 10% off!

Make an appointment today -- your furry friend will thank you!

Heartworm Awareness: Easy to Prevent, Agonizing to Treat

Cincinnati is a very prevelant area for heartworms and it is important to keep all dogs on heartworm prevention all year long. It only takes one mosquito to infect your dog, which can happen to any dog regardless of living inside or outside. Stop in to our clinic with your dog and we would be happy to discuss preventative options with you. Once a month Heartguard ® will prevent heartworms in your dog, as well as roundworms and hookworms. Heartguard ® is guarenteed if purchased through your Veterinarian. If purchased in a 12 month supply, you will also recieve a $12 mail-in rebate. Contact our hospital for more information.

Once a flea lands on your pet, they will continue to breed in your home regardless of what time of the year! Fleas can cause tapeworms and severe allergies in your pets, as well as a headache to owners. Once monthly Frontline Plus ® can help treat and prevent fleas on your dog or cat. Stop in for our Frontline Plus ® special. For a limited time, you can buy a box of 6 and recieve 1 free dose. Call our hospital for more information.

A New Weight Loss (FDA Approved) Drug For Dogs Is Now Available.

You may have noticed that extra weight impacts your dog's regular daily activities, making it harder to climb stairs, play, or even walk. But did you know those extra pounds can also affect his or her health? It only takes an additional 20% above ideal weight for a dog to be considered obese. That means if your dog weighs 35 pounds, just 7 extra pounds can put him or her at risk for many serious conditions associated with obesity. (www.slentrol.com)

We know you care about your dog's health. Yet, helping him or her lose unhealthy weight can be difficult. Diet and exercise are often hard to stick with and may not be enough. If you're frustrated with traditional weight-loss methods, now there's a new option – Slentrol made by Pfizer. (www.slentrol.com)

Here is our first success story with a patient we put on Slentrol.  Meet Doby Ward. Doby is an eight year old miniature pincher that struggled with extra pounds for several years. He started out weighing in at 35lbs. Doby was started on Slentrol and in 9 months, he lost 9lbs. and reached his target weight of 26lbs.! Once he lost the weight, we were able to take him off the drug and work with the owners in maintaining his weight. His energy improved and he looks great! Here are some before and after photos to show what Slentrol can do for your dog.
