Because we live in an area where heartworm occurs regularly, we recommend that you protect your pet against this threat.  Screening and prevention is the best course because treatment of the disease can be difficult, costly and potentially dangerous.  Since it only takes one mosquito to pass along heartworm disease, even indoor pets can benefit from annual screening and prevention.
