Dr. Joanne (Jo) Goodman is the owner and veterinarian at Evendale-Blue Ash Pet Hospital located at 10519 Reading Road. She purchased the practice in November 2017 and continues to update all aspects of the practice.
Dr. Goodman graduated from Miami University in 1998, with a BS in Zoology and is a proud 2003 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Goodman practiced in the Lousiville, KY area at a seven-doctor practice where she received great mentorship to start her career. She moved to Cincinnati in 2005, following her wedding and practiced at Kings Veterinary Hospital for over 11 years.
In caring for your pets, Dr. Goodman will provide modern preventative care, medicine, and surgery services including dental radiographs, laser surgery, therapeutic laser for pain management, ultrasound, and acupuncture.
Dr. Goodman and her husband share their home with 2 dogs, fish, and fire-bellied toads. Her interests include diving, hiking, kayaking, raising awareness for Crohn’s and colitis through running half marathons, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Goodman has loved joining the Evendale community and looks forward to meeting you and your furry family members.

Hi, I'm Dr. Jo Goodman. Growing up, I always wanted to be a dolphin trainer or a marine biologist. I pursued my undergraduate degree in Zoology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I participated in research teams in Colorado and New Mexico, studying how the topography of the land affects animal life. After publishing a paper in my senior year, I realized that I didn't want to go through the publication process again and decided not to pursue a PhD in marine biology.
My parents suggested that I should consider becoming a veterinarian, given my love for animals. I had been volunteering at the SPCA and the county shelter in Lima, where I grew up. I took their advice and started working for a veterinarian in Cincinnati, where I fell in love with the profession.
Can you share a specific case that made you fall in love with the profession?
Yes, it was the infamous maggot story. I helped treat a senior old English shepherd that was infested with maggots while its owners were on vacation. The relief on the animal's face when we were able to help it made me realize this was what I wanted to do.
Where did you go to vet school?
After my experience working with a vet, I applied to vet school and got in. During my time there, I did two of my preceptorships at the National Aquarium and the Navy's Marine Mammal Base in San Diego, where I learned to ultrasound dolphins and sea lions.
What happened after you graduated from vet school?
Well, nobody was hiring when I graduated from school. So here I am, not knowing what I wanted to do again. It's a similar story, so I applied to several locations, and I found a job at a large practice in Louisville. I had a wonderful two years with the best mentor there. And after that, I was proposed to by my husband, and he's from Cincinnati, so we moved to Cincinnati, and practiced for eleven and a half years as an associate.
How did you come to own your own practice?
When I finally decided, I was taking the leap because I wanted my own place, I wanted my own morals, my own values, and I wanted my love for pets. The culture of the practice is my culture and how I want the the staff to feel like such an important part of what we're doing day in and day out to help your fur babies. Seven years ago, I randomly met the previous owner of Evendale Blue Ash for the first time. And now, here I am. I've owned Evendale Blue Ash Pet Hospital for the past six years, buying it in 2017.
How has the journey been owning your own practice?
It's been a journey with its fair share of challenges. There's been a steep learning curve, and I've made mistakes. However, I've learned from each one of them. I'm committed to providing the best care for your fur babies and I'm grateful for the trust and support from you all. I love what I do, and I love the EBAPH family.
