Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a type of medical test that uses sound waves to create pictures of the inside of your furbaby's body. It’s similar to the way an ultrasound works for humans, like when a pregnant woman gets one to see her baby.

For our pets, it’s a non-invasive and painless procedure that helps us see organs like the heart, liver, kidneys, and even look for things like tumors or problems with the bladder.

Here’s how it works:

  • We clip the fur either on the belly or the area of the heart.
  • We apply a special gel to your furbaby’s skin (usually in the area where they need to look, like the belly).
  • Then, we use a small device called a "transducer" which sends out high-frequency sound waves. These sound waves bounce off the organs inside the body, and the machine translates those echoes into images on a screen.

What is Ultrasound Used For?

Ultrasound can be really helpful for diagnosing health issues without needing to do surgery or invasive tests.

For example, it can be used to:

  • Check on a pregnant animal
  • Look for kidney disease, irritable bowel disease
  • Identify changes in the liver
  • Assess heart function

Ultrasound is a safe and quick way for vets to gather important information about your pet's health.
