What to Expect on Surgery Day

Pre-Surgical Exam

Every patient receives a physical exam prior to anesthesia to ensure they are healthy enough for surgery.

Pre-Anesthetic Testing

We recommend bloodwork before anesthesia to check organ function, blood sugar, and clotting ability. This helps us tailor anesthesia to your pet’s specific needs.

Safe Anesthesia Protocols

We use modern anesthetic medications and techniques designed to keep your pet comfortable and stable. An IV catheter is placed so we can administer medications and fluids safely.

Dedicated Monitoring
A trained veterinary professional is assigned to monitor your pet’s vital signs throughout the entire procedure. We use advanced monitoring equipment in combination with comprehensive nursing training to track:

  • Heart rate and rhythm
  • Oxygen levels
  • Blood pressure
  • Respiratory rate
  • Body temperature
  • End Tidal Carbon Dioxide levels

Pain Management
Your pet’s comfort is a top priority. We use multi-modal pain control, meaning we combine different types of medications and modalities to provide effective relief before, during, and after surgery.

After Surgery

Once the procedure is complete, your pet is closely monitored during recovery. We keep them warm, comfortable, and under supervision until they are awake and stable.

You’ll receive:

  • Communication before the procedure starts, after it is complete, and any needed updates in between
  • Detailed discharge instructions
  • Pain medication if needed
  • Guidance on activity restrictions and incision care
  • A recheck appointment if necessary

Our team is always available to answer questions during your pet’s recovery.
